My Review:
This book is the second book of the Shiver Series and I think that it is a great carry on from the first book. As it is giving us more in-depth detail about the characters and their relationships as well as the introduction of new characters. This is the introduction to understand the workings of being a wolf and the effects of it. Many of the characters have to deal with the difficulties of balancing school, normal life and being a wolf.
Grace becomes to realise that balance her life and knowing the secret of the wolves is very hard to do. With her growing relationship with Sam and her personal life being very difficult to manage between school and her parents, Grace comes to realise her perceptive of life is actually far more difficult than she expected. She finds it very difficult to keep the secret of the wolf from her friends who are frequently pestering her about what she is hiding. It becomes very hard for her to be the trustworthy and loyal person that she is or even claims to be when she knows that her family and friends don’t know the true of the world beyond the woods.
Then we have Sam who comes into his own with having a great relationship, having a job as well as having a place to live. Everything seems great in the world until he finds out that he has been left with a task by his adopted father Beck. He doesn’t know if he has the strength or ability to be a leader or to be responsible for this task. How can he take on this task if he can’t even be a normal human boy? All he knows is that he will do anything and everything to be with Grace as well as protect her from harm.
We are also introduced to a new character in this book who goes by the name Cole St. Clair. Cole St Clair is a mysterious, strange and secretive young man who comes to Mercy Falls under the protection of Beck in the hope to give him a better life. For someone who is so strange and weird, he is incredibly smart for his age, as he understands life in different ways to the rest of us. He comes across as a bad boy, who doesn’t think before speaking, who is not very responsible for his actions or what he says. But you will find out along the way through this book that he does have some redeeming qualities about him. That he can be caring and daring as well as protective of the people he cares about.
This book is a great eye-opener to the world of Mercy Falls and the wolves surrounding it. We come to the understanding of the people involved in this series and the role that they play in each other’s lives. This book will have you on edge of your seats wanting you to find out more even though it is a easy read. I would highly recommend that you read the first book of the series to have a better understand as well as read the continuing books that follow.
