Fangirl Book Review

Author: Rainbow Rowell
Published: By St Martin’s Press on September 10th 2013
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fiction
Synopsis:
Cath and Wren are identical twins and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they’re off to university and Wren’s decided she doesn’t want to be on half of a pair anymore - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It’s not so easy for Cath. She would rather bury herself in the fan fiction she writes where the romance is far more intense than anything she’s experienced in real life.
Now Cath has to decide whether she’s ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she’s realising that there’s more to learn about love than she ever thought possible…
A tale of fan fiction, family and first love.
My Review:
Fangirl is one of my favourite books as it is a book that I can relate to. I think I would classify myself a fangirl but doesn't everyone, I believe that there is something that at least everyone would fangirl over.
So Cath is someone I would like to believe to be someone who doesn’t like any change in her life. This can be from her family or to her friends, to education, to her love life.  So for her to go through so many changes through the books was a incredible struggle for her to deal with and this all started when she had her first day of University. throughout this book she struggles with a lot issues on a continual basis from family to friends to dealing with a professor who doesn’t believe in her or her work. Especially when she always believed that she knew what love is like from books and fan fiction but in this book she realises that there is a lot more to learn about love then she expected. She is a beautiful character who empowers people like us (fangirls) to embrace who you are and what you love and don't let anyone tell that you can't. She is so inspiring in so many ways especially on how she deals with all this issues from self doubt, creative struggles and family struggles.
This story is creative on how they take on a real big trend of today’s society, which is fan fiction. I love fan fiction myself, especially how people just have so many different styles or ways to changing the story to their liking. How even these fan fictions sometimes can even be better than the original story. I hate how people say that fan fiction is stupid or not creative or not real writing. Fan fiction is real writing but in a different way, it is taking on the idea of someone else and changing to a way that you want. There are many people out there that write fan fiction and it is so good and amazing and sometimes better than some books that I have read. I believe it should be considered real writing considering the fact that there are many PUBLISHED books out there that are based on fan fiction. I also like the fact the Rainbow Rowell brings in the importance of what university life is like that it is where you experience new things, make new friends and make life experiencing stories that you will be telling your kids later on in life. That university is a life changing experience and it is all about growing as a person and how the people and experiences around you change and make you into the person that you will be for the rest of your life. My advice for you guys while in university is to do what you love and not what people tell you to do, to do crazy things that you thought you wouldn’t do or try and make friends with new people because sometimes those people end up being the friends that you make for life.
